FINISH work is beginning...

saras128

The first time we've uttered that word in this 2 1/2+ year project!

We have lots of exciting progress to share! We were away for 2 weeks and the SEA Marine crew kicked it into high gear--maybe we should leave more often! Pat has taken over chief carpenter duties (while Bob is off building a house in Idaho) and is doing a great job. Sara is starting in on varnishing--sure to be a loooong process with all this wood and outdoor parts needing 6-8 coats.

Here's a slideshow of Bob & Matt building and attaching the teak veneer to the transom. Elton is applying the finish.

Aaron and Elton are varnishing the toe rail and bow sprit--varnish, sand, repeat. We are using Awlwood, which is a great product--easy to work with and looks beautiful!

We've applied a couple coats of varnish to the flybridge railings, console and helm station. (No, Aaron was not playing Twister, green circles are just for traction.)

The flybridge deck and walls have been painted and non-stick applied. This was done while we were on vacation and to come back to this shiny white surface was very exciting! (The gray material is paint Aaron sprays on to better see the areas that need more sanding.)

The galley installation has begun. Hawkins of Haven Boatworks is doing the work and it's gorgeous! We agonized over the layout and are very pleased with the way things it's turning out. It actually feels rather spacious!

Pat's handiwork: He rebuilt the master stateroom bed frame, raising it to gain width (for a couple used to a king size) and built and installed a shelf on the wall above (before & after pics); he rebuilt the ladder to the flybridge, crafting new rungs, thicker and wider than the originals; he built a box to be mounted next to the cockpit helm station for the joystick control.

Matt completed the exhaust system, Clay and Ed continue work on the fuel system, Elton and Colin the electrical. Offsite, the hard top is almost finished and railings are being manufactured. We're getting there!
